The role

Overview

As the Data Platform & Engineering Lead, you will spearhead a critical technological evolution at one of the world's most recognizable retailers. Your primary mission involves orchestrating the large-scale migration of legacy data systems from Teradata into a cutting-edge Databricks Lakehouse environment. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will not only architect the medallion data models (bronze, silver, and gold) but also establish the engineering standards, coding practices, and delivery frameworks that will define the company's data future. You will be responsible for building and mentoring a high-performing team of engineers, ensuring that data pipelines are scalable, secure, and optimized for performance. Joining Primark means entering a fast-paced, product-driven environment where data is treated as a core asset. You will work closely with cross-functional partners in Data Science and Analytics to ensure that the platform delivers measurable commercial value and faster business insights. The culture here emphasizes authentic self-expression and collaborative problem-solving, providing a supportive backdrop for a leader who wants to drive meaningful change. You will have the autonomy to manage the data platform as a product, aligning your technical roadmap with high-level business OKRs and KPIs. This position offers a unique opportunity to leave a lasting legacy by modernizing the data infrastructure of a global enterprise. Beyond the immediate technical challenges, you will be positioned as a strategic advisor to stakeholders, helping them navigate complex data landscapes. For a leader with a growth mindset, this role provides the platform to refine your FinOps expertise, scale a department from the ground up, and influence the digital transformation of a retail giant. Success in this role means creating a high-performance learning culture that empowers your team to innovate continuously.
