Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary deputy to the General Counsel and a senior leader for the legal department
- Advise digital product, engineering, and data teams on compliance and risk-based solutions
- Lead the legal strategy for AI and generative AI initiatives across multiple jurisdictions
- Manage the commercial legal team and oversee all business transactions
- Develop and implement legal operations improvements, including budgeting and efficiency programs
- Collaborate with New York Times Company stakeholders to align legal guidance with corporate strategy
Essential
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar (or equivalent)
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant legal experience
- Extensive background in product counseling and intellectual property
- Proven experience in technology law, data privacy, and commercial transactions
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a legal team
- Experience advising product and engineering teams on complex regulatory matters
Preferred
- Experience in the media or sports industry
- Familiarity with international legal frameworks and cross-jurisdictional risk
