The role
Overview
As the Data Design Lead at Barclays, you will take on a pivotal leadership role within the bank's global data architecture ecosystem. Your primary mission is to architect and enforce a standardized Data Product Design Methodology that balances rigorous governance with the need for rapid, agile execution. You will spend your days overseeing the creation of high-impact data products, ensuring they are built with inherent quality, transparency, and auditability. By leading a global community of design leads and engineers, you will act as a bridge between technical execution and strategic business objectives, particularly within high-stakes domains such as Financial Crime, Fraud prevention, and Risk management.
This position is situated at the heart of Barclays' digital transformation, where data is treated as a first-class product. You will be joining a sophisticated Bulge Bracket environment that values innovation in data lineage, metadata excellence, and automated compliance. The culture is one of high performance and collaboration, where you are expected to mentor the next generation of data talent while influencing senior stakeholders on investment decisions. This is not just a governance role; it is a visionary position where you will codify reusable patterns and reference architectures that will define how one of the world's largest financial institutions handles information for years to come.
For a professional looking to leave a lasting legacy, this role offers an immense platform. You will have the opportunity to drive the adoption of modern digital controls and observability tools, moving the organization toward a 'compliance-by-design' model. Success in this role means significantly reducing technical debt and duplication across the enterprise, positioning you as a key architect of the bank's future data landscape. The growth trajectory is significant, offering visibility at the highest levels of the Group's leadership and the chance to shape global standards in financial data design.
