Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support line editors and deputy line editors in their daily tasks
- Manage the volume and quality of all digital content published to the website
- Serve as an educational mentor and resource for student volunteers
- Assist the Editor-in-Chief with administrative duties and editorial strategy
- Coordinate the solicitation of content to ensure a consistent publishing pipeline
Essential
- Must be a registered student at the University of Alberta taking at least one credit course during the Fall and Winter terms
- Ability to commit to the full contract term from May 1, 2026, to April 30, 2027
- Availability to work flexible hours including evenings or weekends as news cycles dictate
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with university staff, students, and the public
- Adherence to the Gateway Student Journalism Society bylaws
Preferred
- Experience with data journalism techniques
- Proficiency in video and audio editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro
- Basic programming knowledge or web development interest
- Previous experience in a leadership or mentorship role within a newsroom
