Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support line editors and deputy line editors in their daily tasks
  • Manage the volume and quality of all digital content published to the website
  • Serve as an educational mentor and resource for student volunteers
  • Assist the Editor-in-Chief with administrative duties and editorial strategy
  • Coordinate the solicitation of content to ensure a consistent publishing pipeline

Essential

  • Must be a registered student at the University of Alberta taking at least one credit course during the Fall and Winter terms
  • Ability to commit to the full contract term from May 1, 2026, to April 30, 2027
  • Availability to work flexible hours including evenings or weekends as news cycles dictate
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with university staff, students, and the public
  • Adherence to the Gateway Student Journalism Society bylaws

Preferred

  • Experience with data journalism techniques
  • Proficiency in video and audio editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Basic programming knowledge or web development interest
  • Previous experience in a leadership or mentorship role within a newsroom
